HNC Student Ambassador Position
Job Description
The Hopkins-Nanjing Center (HNC) is hiring 1-2 Student Ambassadors for the 2021-2022 academic year! Student Ambassadors work closely with the HNC Deputy Director to receive and host in-person visitors to the HNC, as well as participate in and help lead virtual events and information sessions. This position is for effective communicators who enjoy meeting new people, both virtually and in-person. Aside from larger planned events, student visits and online sessions are sometimes planned on relatively short notice throughout the fall and spring semesters. Therefore, flexibility, organization, and a problem-solving mentality are required to succeed.
Responsibilities
Coordinate in-person visits and virtual meetings and talks with prospective students; aspects include working with administration to set up course observations, information sessions and informal meet and greets with prospective students.
In coordination with other student workers and the HNC DC Office, participate in virtual information sessions with prospective students, conduct admissions interviews with HNC applicants, and moderate admitted student Facebook groups.
Help plan and execute fall and spring open houses for American/International Prospective and Admitted Students. Student ambassadors work with the American administration to coordinate one open house each semester, with students taking the lead role in execution of event.
Assist HNC administration in hosting visiting groups to the HNC. Tasks may include being present for tours, acting as a guide, taking photos, and accompanying groups outside of the Center around Nanjing.
Take photos to share with HNC DC marketing team when appropriate; writing summaries of events and guest lectures.
Write blog posts for HNC blog about your experiences as an HNC student, including academics, student life, events, etc. Conduct interviews with alumni, current students, and faculty for HNC blog and SAIS website. Must submit at least one blog post per month.
Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Ability to share experiences with HNC community and prospective students in a professional manner.
Ability to work well with others and manage competing priorities.
Willingness to independently develop engaging social media and blog content.
Flexible schedule to assist with occasional afterhours events and information sessions.
Strong writing skills are required.
Must be enrolled as an HNC student for the entirety of the 2021-2022 academic year.
Must have completed and submitted FAFSA form by the time of application.
Previous communications and/or blogging experience preferred.
Previous admissions experience preferred.
Time Commitment
Maximum of 15 hours per week at the SAIS student worker rate of $15.20/hour.
