Editing Assistant - China-Africa Research Initiative Position
SAIS-CARI Editing Assistant Position
The China Africa Research Initiative (CARI) at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies invites applications for the position of Editing Assistant. Reporting to the Director of CARI through the CARI Editor, the Editing Assistant will help ensure clarity and consistency of structure and style, as well as general readability of CARI reports for our global and varied audience.
Tasks will involve reading drafts of research reports, providing comments and suggested edits to improve clarity or comprehension, and correcting grammar and syntax (particularly for non-native English-speaking authors). The Editing Assistant may also help the Editor use Adobe InDesign to format these reports for publication.
This position requires excellent writing and editing abilities and a solid command of English. We have a preference for candidates who are proficient in Adobe InDesign, but this is not required. Interest in China-Africa issues is strongly preferred.
The role will require about 5-10 hours per week with flexible hours for a 4-month commitment and an extension into the spring semester contingent upon performance. Tasks will be irregular, depending on the submission of papers.
Applicants must be Johns Hopkins University students and eligible to work in the United States. International students are welcome to apply. Candidates should be able to start work by end of September 2018 at the latest. CARI is accepting applications immediately until Friday, September 7, 2018. Interested candidates should include in their application a CV, cover letter, and two samples of their own writing or editing (as a single file).
